The question nobody wants to answer first

"What do you want to do?" is a question where answering first feels like imposing, so both people deflect and the evening evaporates. It is a coordination problem, not a preference problem.

A wheel solves it by removing authorship. Nobody suggested the plan, so nobody has to feel responsible if it turns out mediocre.

The list is split roughly evenly between going out and staying in, and between cheap and less cheap. Half the entries cost nothing beyond what you would spend anyway.

What's on the Date Night Wheel wheel

    Build it together, once

Fifteen minutes, both of you, one list:

    • Add three each you have never done. These are the ones that make it worth doing.
    • Delete anything either of you would groan at. An entry one person dreads makes every spin a negotiation.
    • Add the specifics. "Live music" is better as the name of the venue you keep meaning to visit.
    • Save it, then share it so you both have it.

Then spin on the night. The list stays good for months, and adding one new idea a month keeps it from going stale.

"Early night, no plans" is on the wheel on purpose. Sometimes that is the honest answer, and landing on it deliberately is better than a night out that neither of you had the energy for.

    Frequently asked questions

    Can we both add ideas?

Yes, and it works far better that way. Add three each, delete anything either of you would refuse, then spin.

    Are these expensive?

About half cost nothing beyond a normal evening — cooking, a walk, a movie night, a board game.

Can we share the wheel between two phones?

Yes. Share this wheel makes a link carrying the whole list.

Can we make some options more likely?

Yes. Turn on Weighted choices and add *2 to the ideas you want to come up more often.
